Go to the Move On Website and read up on a current campaign. Take action if you find something you feel strongly about.
Educate yourself. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (a government site) conveniently has a list of podcasts on health issues. You can listen to them right there and learn about disease, public health, food and other subjects. Take a look at the sidebar and you’ll see there are also videos and even more options.
Sign an appeal at Amnesty International, founded in 1961 to stop the abuse of human rights all over the world. This page to take action is current and you can read about each issue and then sign and send a petition or send an email.
I just did this one myself and it didn’t even take the whole fifteen minutes. You’ve probably thought about this one… felt a bit squeamish. I’m talking about being an organ donor. But the thought would cross my mind and be gone a few minutes later before I could even figure out how to act on it. OrganDonor is an official U.S. government website managed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services with links to your state agency. I live in Massachusetts. It was just a small form to fill out. We all know this can save lives. Also, if you know or think you’ve registered in the past, now is a good time to double-check and make sure all your information is still valid. When I went to my state site it was easy to log in and do this.
Human Rights Watch has fought for over thirty years to prevent discrimination, uphold political freedom and protect people from inhumane conduct in wartime, and to bring offenders to justice. They do this through investigation and by exposing human rights violations. You can help their work by going to the Take Action page and signing a petition for such issues as ending child labor in America (yes, America.)
Please spend slightly less than 15 minutes today by watching a video from Free The Slaves. The website has a lot of options on it for action, for education, and I suspect you’ll find something more you will want to do. Modern day slavery is an issue we don’t know enough about. I feel sure that watching this video will be a great way to spend your fifteen minutes, and then you can take it from there. This one is an eye-opener.
Who protects the earth? Did you ever consider that the earth might need a lawyer… or a crew of lawyers? The motto of EarthJustice is “because the earth needs a good lawyer.” Their mission is to protect the earth and to defend the right of people to live in a healthy environment. They maintain a list of petitions that you can sign after you have finished reading about what is needed to preserve our surroundings. They’ve been at it since 1971 and have a significant track record.
